Mr. Watson has asked that in the event of his being confirmed in the appointment he may be allowed to receive the maximum salary of the post.
In view of his long service 22 years and of the fact that the gain in actual pay by his promotion is less than $200 a year (as reference to the enclosed comparison of emoluments will show) and that he forfeits the privilege of occupying free quarters while available when not fully occupied by Married Members of the Gaol Staff, I have to recommend that the indulgence be granted to him.
